  • 12/06/08--15:30: New novel "In Memory of Central Park." - Dec 06,2008 (chan 2949857)
  • Author, activist Queenelle Minet discusses her new novel "In Memory of Central Park." Minet currently resides in Larkspur, CA. She holds a master’s degree in psychology from Antioch University West, a master’s degree in theater arts from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Penn State University. A licensed marriage and family therapist, she is currently a member of the American Psychological Association and numerous environmental organizations. Visit www.centralparknovel.com for more information. In her new novel, Minet presents a vision of a future New York City where both nature and civil liberties have ceased to exist. The fact is that global warming, rising sea levels and overflowing landfills are currently threatening our way of life. According to Minet, if we don’t make significant changes now, we are putting ourselves and our planet in serious jeopardy. “In Memory of Central Park transports the reader to a world both completely different and uncomfortably similar to the one in which we live,” says Minet, a progressive environmental advocate and psychotherapist. “By engrossing readers in an entertaining story, I hope to make a difference in terms of how readers view the important issues of our day, including environmental degradation, global warming, and the erosion of our civil liberties.” Set in 2050, “In Memory of Central Park” presents a vision of a New York City that has been encased in a massive terrorist-proof shell, with no one able to travel in or out. In this dark world, people begin falling ill and dying as a result of pollution trapped inside the very structures meant to protect them. The novel’s main characters are lovers Noah and Margaret, who navigate their forbidden relationship inside the politically repressive, encapsulated city.

  • 03/21/11--13:00: Tom Theobald and Graham White: Clothianidin and The Urgent Need For Environmental Reform - Mar 21,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • Clothianidin has been widely used as a seed treatment on many of the USA’s key crops (which include canola, soy, sunflowers, wheat and sugar beet crops) for eight growing seasons under a conditional registration granted while EPA waited for Bayer Crop Science, the pesticide’s maker, to conduct a field study assessing the insecticide’s threat to bee colony health. The EPA has moved from granting a conditional registration to full registration of this chemical just in time for the spring planting. Tom Theobald is the Colorado beekeeper that slammed the EPA for granting full registration to the Bayer Corporation for Clothianidin. He has been relentlessly trying to raise awareness about this chemical and has been working towards environmental reform regarding the EPA’s process to grant registration. Graham White is a beekeeper and environmental author who lives in Scotland, near Scotland's greatest salmon-river, the River Tweed. He began keeping bees about 15 years ago and first noticed severe environmental changes to his bees, to butterflies and other wildlife, around 2002, which he soon linked to the introduction of neonicotinoid pesticides. He is the author and editor of a number of environmental books including: The Nature of Scotland and several collections of John Muir's writings. He served for 20 years as the Director of the Edinburgh Environment Centre, providing over 200 local schools with outdoor education and environmental programs. His message is that we are in danger of creating an agricultural environmental that is toxic to wildlife of every kind. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Tom Theobald and Graham White about the negative impact Clothianidin has and their efforts to raise awareness. Stay tuned!

  • 05/03/11--13:00: Author, Sandra Steingraber: Raising Elijah - May 03,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • In Raising Elijah: Protecting Our Children in an Age of Environmental Crisis, internationally recognized biologist Sandra Steingraber reflects on how caring for her own family led her to tough realizations and hard choices. She links key events in her children’s lives—leaving a beloved preschool due to chemical contaminants on the playground, learning to appreciate organic produce—with broader environmental concerns, shedding new light on the factors affecting both human health and the health of the planet. From bug spray, to “tuna salad: the new lead paint,” to her own deck made of pressure-treated wood (which contains the carcinogen—and developmental neurotoxicant—arsenic), Steingraber outlines the various hazards that lurk in most houses and backyards. But as she explains, no mother or father can foolproof a home. In her words, “I am a conscientious parent. I am not a HEPA filter.” That’s why, instead of shopping tips and websites to consult, she calls for “federal regulations that assess chemicals for their ability to alter puberty before they are allowed access to the marketplace,” a ban on horizontal slickwater hydrofracturing (a.k.a. “fracking”), and “chemical reform based on precautionary principles.” She also highlights a growing child’s special needs and vulnerabilities, observing that many doctors, scientists, and governing bodies assume “all members of the population basically act, biologically, like middle-aged men.” At once a call to action and a poignant meditation on the simple joys of motherhood, Raising Elijah helps us see the little changes we can make and, more importantly, the enormous—but not impossible—changes we must demand. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Author, Sandra Steingraber.

  • 08/21/11--10:00: GREEN AFRICA: Degradation and Fragmentation - Aug 21,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • ABOUT THIS WEEK’S EPISODE :Degradation is “the temporary or permanent deterioration in the density or structure of vegetation cover or species composition, resulting from the removal of plants and trees important in the life cycle of other species, from erosion, and from other adverse changes in the local environment.” Fragmentation “arises from road construction and similar human intrusions in forest areas; it leaves forest edges vulnerable to increased degradation through changes in micro-climates, loss of native species and the invasion of alien species, and further disturbances by human beings.” Degradation and fragmentation makes up much larger area than does deforestation. They also have a greater impact on the diversity of animals and plant life. • 08/30/11--07:00: Cycle of Changes:Environmental vs Spiritual! - Aug 30,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • It is evident that the world around us is going through some incredible changes: hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, amongst other environmental changes. The world is also going through major political and social changes as well. So if the world is changing than why arent we. This is just the beginning of the cycle of changes. So what does this mean for an individual heading down their spiritual path? I personally have come to realize that this is a time for learning and growth. The biggest lesson for myself came in this form,: If you have to look outside yourself for something you WANT, than ask yourself if it is something you NEED! Point? Everything you WANT or NEED can be found within you! I love this lesson! Please come join me as I discuss how I am changing and tapping into my natural abilities as the world itself is making its changes. I want to discuss how I am tapping into other peoples energy as well as my own. I will be discussing how I am communicating with others in a non-verbal way. This is the exciting part of my spiritual journey and I am enthusiastic to share it with you! http//www.facebook.com/awareofmythoughts

  • 09/01/11--07:00: Carol Hillegas TAOLW with Charlotte and Lindsay - Sep 01,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • Carol Hillegas was introduced to nature at a time when conversing with the unseen was unusual. Her environmental awareness began when she left her suburban lifestyle and moved to a rural community to build a Retreat and Conference Center. Away from the ordinary world nature began to teach Carol the ways of the natural world. Her aptitude for discerning the voice of nature gave her the opportunity to learn at the feet of the master, Nature. By communicating with nature Carol began to learn of a world beyond the physical. She sought solutions to seemingly impossible situations to bring balance to places in need of it. Her fascination turned to activism as she sought to remedy conditions of drought in Southern California. Gradually Carol, and a group of dedicated women, brought into being the beginnings of The Awakened Earth. By turning to nature and a group of unseen Masters her body of work began to evolve. Her work involves reaching beyond the constructs of existing systems which are unable to bring satisfactory solutions to environmental difficulties. She has successfully brought us methods which are having a profound impact on the natural world. She has put her life’s work into the book, The Awakened Earth, so that ordinary people can use the formulas to solve their own environmental dilemmas.

  • 12/04/11--15:00: Environmental Gains and Economic Prospects of Green Economy - Dec 04,2011 (chan 2949857)
  • According to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) a green economy is one whose growth in income and employment is driven by public and private investments that reduce carbon emissions and pollution, enhance energy and resource efficiency, and prevent the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services. These investments need to be catalyzed and supported by targeted public expenditure, policy reforms and regulation changes. This development path should maintain, enhance and, where necessary, rebuild natural capital as a critical economic asset and source of public benefits, especially for poor people whose livelihoods and security depend strongly on nature. Essentially, Green Economy is investment in alternative energy sources. Today’s program will discuss the environmental gains and the economic prospects in Green Economy. HOST: Ernest Kwabena Opong (Publisher of Amandla News)
